Framing IdeasThere are three main elements of picture framing; The picture, the mat and the frame. Creating a well balanced framed photograph requires the correct balance of these three. Use too large of a mat and your picture disappears, use too thin of a frame and the picture becomes understated. The following ar some basic guidelines to creating a well balanced framed picture. The Frame - Select a frame that will complement your photograph. If your image is soft and muted colors, choose a frame that does not pull attention away from the picture. The Mat - The mat should compliment the frame and the picture, pulling the viewers eye toward the art work. Both the mat color and mat width will effect the over all view. Mat Color - Choose a color that is either neutral or that coordinates with a color from the art work. When using a two mat layers, the lower mat should be darker and coordinate with he picture. Mat Size - General rule of thumb is 2" mat for 8 x 10 and 3" mat for 11 x 14 around the outside of a picture. Sometimes the bottom is slightly wider then the top or sides to make the picture stand up, and not look like it is drooping. The picture - Stone Harbor Art offers a wide selection of photographs. Select a photograph that you find attractive and that fits into the general decor of the room it is going to be displayed. Visit our framing sources for additional information. |
